The packaging design for KEF MUO features works by German artist Martin Klimas. I flew to Düsseldorf to discuss details with him.
Martin's studio, located in the city center, embodies a neat, minimalist and tranquil environment – a quintessentially German aesthetic.
I first discovered Martin through his Porcelain Figurines series – explosive shots of shattered ceramic martial arts statues with chaotic yet orderly compositions and exquisite photography techniques. Each piece leaves viewers breathless. The Sound Sculptures we selected are Martin's most iconic works. He places pigments on loudspeaker diaphragms, capturing how colors dance with variations in volume and frequency. For each image, Martin selects specific music tracks, often favoring dynamic and impactful compositions by artists like Karlheinz Stockhausen, Miles Davis, or Kraftwerk. The pigments perform different musical styles through their kinetic movements, all immortalized through his Hasselblad lens. According to Martin, he shot approximately a thousand photographs to create this Sound Sculptures collection.
