In 2012, during a discussion with Principal Ronnie Cheng about the school’s Visual Communication, there was consensus on the need to streamline the cluttered School Identity to align with modernization and digital demands. Additionally, since the millennium, the school had undergone significant reforms in curriculum, academic systems, facilities, and architecture. It was time to establish a cohesive visual identity that reflected the school’s commitment to its community and society.
Officially, this became the fourth iteration of the school crest in its 155-year history. The redesign process involved extensive research and meticulous design work, taking approximately five months to draft the initial version and nearly a year to finalize. The project was divided into three phases: first, refining the crest’s structure and its seven emblematic motifs; second, defining the color scheme; and third, creating adaptable applications for both print and digital mediums.Time flies—this redesigned crest has now been in use for a decade.
A designer may produce many satisfactory works in their career, few carry deep personal significance. This humble school crest remains one of my most cherished and unforgettable creations.
